National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

The NLPQ is designed to assess the competence of anyone engaged at any time in the role of a lifeguard following a course of training in the skills and knowledge associated with the principles of lifeguard practices. Assessment will be at the conclusion of a period of continuous assessment that has taken place throughout the training course, testing rescue and physical skills, self-discipline, observation and communication, supervision, teamwork and first aid.

Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teachers
This certificate is the first qualification in teaching / coaching and is the pre-requisite to taking a course leading to the ASA Level 2 Certificate for Teaching. It is designed to qualify you to assist an ASA Level 2 Certificate holder.
Level 2 Swimming Teachers
The ASA Teacher Level 2 Certificate comprises of four units with the opportunity to complete an NVQ Level 2 qualification.
This course will cover three units and candidates will qualify to teach from Non-Swimmers to Advanced 1. Candidates are advised to complete unit 4 or obtain accreditation towards their Continuing Professional Development or the currency of their certificate will expire.
The ASA Level 2 Teacher Certificate is the second phase in becoming a swimming teacher. The course covers the teaching of swimming skills to groups (8-12 members) from Non-Swimmers to Advanced 1 plus organisation and supervision of Level 1 Teachers and Helpers.
Candidates should be aware that there will be approximately 18-22 hours of guided learning away from the course and it is important that ALL work is submitted to the tutor by the required deadline, as failure to do so could result in the candidate failing the course. In accordance with our Quality Assurance guidelines candidates may be requested to sign for deadlines.
There will be a 1 1/2 hour exam at the end of the course.
Prerequisite: Candidates must be 18 years or over before the start of the course and be holders of a Level 1 Teachers Certificate (Swimming) or have exemption from it.
Please Note: Candidates must quote their ASA Level 1 qualification number when applying to attend this course. Candidates MUST purchase the ASA Teacher Certificate Log Book well in advance of the course start date, as it is a requirement of the course to record over 15 hours of verified teaching practice prior to the course start date.
